About this topic

Asia is the world's largest and most populous continent, home to roughly 4.7 billion people across 49 mapped sovereign states (50 including Palestine as a UN observer). It spans the Levant and Arabian Peninsula in the southwest, the Caucasus in the northwest, the steppes and deserts of Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Himalayan plateau, the cold expanse of Siberia (covered separately under Russia), and the densely-populated archipelagos of Southeast and East Asia. The continent contains the world's tallest peak (Everest), its deepest land depression (the Dead Sea), and its three largest cities by metropolitan population (Tokyo, Delhi, Shanghai). This topic covers the 49 sovereign states the standard regional map breaks Asia into — every UN member state geographically on the Asian continent, plus Taiwan and Palestine. Practice the names by typing each one against a live Asia map, click each country on the map under the clock, drill the flag-to-name pairing one banner at a time, sort Asian countries from non-Asian distractors in the tile-select rounds, or match each capital to its country across regional rounds. Every mode counts toward your topic mastery. Asia's regional sub-divisions make natural drill sets: East Asia (China, Japan, the Koreas, Mongolia, Taiwan), Southeast Asia (the ASEAN ten plus Timor-Leste), South Asia (the Indian subcontinent + the island states), Central Asia (the five -stans), the Middle East / West Asia (Levant, Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Cyprus), and the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia). New here: try the click-the-map mode first — Asia's shape is more memorable than its alphabetical list.
